In the lane, try to position your soldiers between the enemy's minions and the enemy champion. This way you can use them both to last hit and to project threat onto your lane opponent.
Be careful about putting down both of the soldiers stored by Arise! Unless you're going all-in, always have a soldier in your back pocket if you need to escape over a wall or if you misposition your other soldier and need damage now.
Think of Emperor's Divide as a defensive ability first and foremost. Use it when the enemy engages on you or your allies. Remember that your team can walk through the soldiers summoned by Emperor's Divide and use this to your advantage when enemy melee champions engage on you.
Intentionally breaking a wall of The Box can allow a vulnerable ally to escape unscathed.
Thresh's Death Sentence has a long cast time. Watch for the cast to begin to take evasive actions.
Thresh relies on collecting souls for a portion of his defense and damage. Try punishing him when he moves to collect them.
The stat comparisons shown on this page highlight several significant Azir against Thresh matchup stats that may help us interpret the distinctions between the two. Moreover, Azir has some amount of CC and other utility, a similar amount to Thresh. This makes her just as valuable during teamfights, especially when trying to counter champions with a ton of burst damage.
While there is not a single best champion for every situation in League of Legends, in Azir vs Thresh matchups, Azir is the better champ with a noticably higher win rate, more champion depth, and a similar amount of utility to help out your allies during teamfights.
Azir is a great counter to Thresh. You will do well by focussing your gameplay on increasing your gold and cs and clearing objectives. If you can do that, you should do very well as Azir against Thresh.

These kinds of champions are able to scale properly off of their skills, stats, and first items alone. Yet, champs with large amounts of CS, such as hyper-carries, often require many items to be effective. In either situation, try to do better than the numbers shown here to do well.
The most important items to focus on in your Azir versus Thresh build include Rabadon's Deathcap, Banshee's Veil, and Nashor's Tooth. When Azir combined at least these three items in his build, he performed a lot better when fighting Thresh than with many other common builds. In fact, Azir boasted an average win rate of 54.6% when playing against Thresh with this counter build.
To have the greatest probability of annihilating Thresh as Azir, you should use the Fleet Footwork, Presence of Mind, Legend: Alacrity, Coup de Grace, Manaflow Band, and Scorch runes from the Precision and Sorcery rune sets. Out of all the rune sets that we analyzed for Azir vs Thresh matchups, this mixture of runes yielded the best win rate. In fact, these runes gave a 54.6% winrate overall.
