Try to take advantage of Piercing Arrow's very long range to snipe at enemy champions before a fight or as they're trying to flee.
An early point in Blighted Quiver helps harass enemy champions and get killing blows on minions.
During short range fights it's sometimes best to fire Piercing Arrow quickly, rather than charging it to full power.
Fizz's spells scale off Ability Power - consider getting items like Zhonya's Hourglass or Banshee's Veil against teams that have high burst threat - and items like Lich Bane or Rabadon's Deathcap if you think you can survive without the Health.

When Varus is an ally to Fizz, he observes a little increase in his complete damage dealt. This change may signal that Fizz provides cover for him to deal more damage or that his participation also helps extend the round's duration. This is contrasting evidence that he is worse when playing synergisticly with Fizz.
Additionally, when Varus plays with Fizz on the same side, he often receives a little more damage than when he fights alone. Receiving more damage may mean that Fizz does a poor job of covering Varus during teamfights.
There is no universally accepted best champion pairing for Varus that will always be his #1 teammate. Yet, overall, Fizz is a decent ally for Varus. By locking into the same team as Varus, he raises their win rate by 2.2% to 50.6%. This clearly indicates that there is pretty good bond between Varus and Fizz that results in them performing at the top of their game together than without each other.
Fizz has a much greater difficulty compared to Varus. That means Varus players need to be careful when lining up Fizz teammates to play with, as they will need a much higher level of skill to be able to play well with you.
Fighting together, Varus players should witness an overall large increase in your team’s ability to deal physical damage. Combined, these champs can provide a great amount of sustained physical damage.
Although, by bringing Varus and Fizz together, you will not be providing your team enough support. We recommend you pick other champs on your team that offsets this hole in their capabilities.
Regardless of the ability of your Fizz ally, you should focus on increasing your gold income, warding to avoid ambushes, and clearing objectives. If you heed this simple advice, you will do well anyway.
